Education Is the Best Investment Ever

Category: News — Author: Marita

The best investment ever is in a good education.

All of us have some inherent talent and deep potential. A good education brings out the talent within us and helps us uncover our hidden potential. It builds our character and builds in us a respect for our fellow men. It teaches us patience and humility. A good education develops our thinking prowess, and teaches us to think. Critical thinking will enable us to analyse any problem from various angles and come up with different solutions, and thus help us solve the;problem. A good education teaches us to learn and how to access the knowledge we need. This is important since learning should not stop at school, it should be life long. When we learn how to learn we are better equipped to face life.

A good education would of course equip us with the knowledge and skills needed to embark on a chosen career and earn a living. While we should not confuse between a good education and a good degree, it is a fact that getting a good degree from a good school can open the doors to getting a high paying and satisfying career. Today a graduate with a sought after degree such as computer science, engineering, law, management etc from a highly esteemed (by the corporate world) school can start a career with a pay several times that of a ‘plain’ graduate from a lesser known school.

Getting such a degree would entail a significant investment of time and money. Such an investment may even be beyond your reach. But this is an investment that can pay very rich dividend, if you consider that you might be able to earn so much more. In my part of the world for instance a ‘plain’ graduate might get a job as a clerk in an office or retail counter at say Rs. 5000 to Rs. 7000 or so per month; but if they were to undergo the sacrifice needed to invest 3-4 years and several lacs of rupees as course fee for a ‘professional’ degree, they might start out with a salary of Rs. 25000 upwards. If you consider the difference in what you can earn in life-time, you will see what a wonderful investment it is.

Of course it is not enough to merely make the investment. You have to work to get the best of it. You will see that in any graduating class the difference between the top placed candidate and the bottom could be significant. IT is not uncommon to see a top salary of say RS. 50,000 and a bottom one of say Rs.20,000. So you need to work hard on your investment to get the best return.

Remember, also education is a safe investment. There is no risk of ‘default’. You can lose all your money, your job or even your house in very bad times (may they never come!). But no one can take away what you have learnt. Your education always remains with you.

Nursing Degree Programs

Category: News — Author: Marita

The nursing profession has been around for a very long time. It is a profession that is considered more of a calling than just a career. It’s also considered a very noble profession that has never had enough workers. The reason it is considered more of a calling is the fact that at the point of caring for people you are bound to be required to go an extra mile to help them recover. It is also very likely that you will become emotionally attached to your patients in the course of your work. The empathy you have for patients’ families will also drain you and sometimes leave you vulnerable to trauma and or the family members taking advantage of you.

However beyond the passion and caring nature, one requires sound academic qualifications to make a good nurse. There are various nursing degree programs that will ensure you have the requisite theoretical and practical training. Unlike earlier years’ nursing which was considered a non academic field that only called for compassion for the sick, today nursing is a very academic intense profession with programs from certificate, nursing degree programs, masters and doctorate levels.

There are several avenues for joining the nursing profession. One can begin by studying for a nursing diploma or for a two year nursing associate program both of which concentrate on the technical aspects of nursing. However today it is more common and advisable – due to market demands – to pursue a nursing degree program for individuals starting out a career in nursing. A nursing degree program is also a good option for those with associate nurse qualifications but wish to advance their knowledge as well as their careers.

Studying for a nursing degree program will open up numerous career opportunities. There is a huge short fall of nurses in the public institutions. Private medical centers, clinics, schools and not for profit institutions also need nurses. Nursing degree programs have the advantage of being general or specialized depending on ones choice. This option makes it easier to chart out a career path in the area that you are most comfortable in and where one has a keen interest.

The areas of specialization in nursing degree programs include cardiovascular care, pediatric care, neonatal care, surgery and primary care. In a general nursing class the subjects you expect to learn include: nursing skills, biological sciences, social studies, clinical theory and research methods. Nursing degree programs whether general or specialized require a great interest in biological studies and a passion for clinical studies.

The nursing profession is not for the weak willed. It demands long working hours, passion and will tax you emotionally. As much as nursing has become a lucrative career the world over due to shortages of nurses against an ever growing demand, nursing should be for those with an inner motivation to help patients. Pursuing a nursing degree program is the easier part however working as a professional nurse requires full dedication. The beauty of it is that it is extremely rewarding with very visible success results.

Do You Know The Biggest Problem in Our Schools?

Category: News — Author: Marita

Public Schools in most parts of the United States are facing a major uphill battle in regards to teaching our children. We have even labeled schools and districts as “at risk.” It would take on the same meaning if you were looking for a house. You have selected the house and the realtor asks you if you are sending your children to private or public school. You make the comment that you will be sending your children to the local public school. The realtor informs you that the house you are highly interested in is in a high “at risk” area. Now, would you be purchasing anything in that area? It will send a red flag up not only for the schools, but also for the community, and you may want to keep on looking. What a plight on the schools, kids and area that brings.

The alliance that the schools have with teacher’s unions and the traditional way of giving school work to children is playing havoc on our kids. Some kids to not have books, nor do they get homework assignments.

Most school programs in America urgently need a highly non-traditional accelerated learning program. This program must be loaded with special features like short cuts to learning, and test taking. It must have a handle on the testing system. In fact, the entire testing system would have to be overhauled.

What would be recommended is to put in place a pilot program in all of the “at risk” school areas.

The caliper of testing would be more involved, more detailed, and more dynamic than the one that is in place at the moment. Accelerated learning systems have something to prove, so they must be able to show that the children are learning and learning very well. It will show long ranging effects.

There is a downhill side of this issue. The schools will refuse to set up a program even as a pilot one. They are petrified of what may happen. The kids, parents and teachers may love it. This system is easier on the students, and whatever is easy for the kids and they are learning you will have happy parents and the teachers will be astonished at the effects of their efforts. What is shocking is that we have been already offering accelerated learning type programs at the so called good schools. Private schools make it a point to introduce their student body to accelerated learning programs. The instructors will see that what they do will have immediate results for the kids.

Companion for Your Spanish Course: History of Chile Part 4 of 4

Category: News — Author: Marita

When students learn Spanish in Chile, they typically get some exposure to the current politics of the region during their stay. As a result, it makes sense to have some knowledge of recent history so that you can participate in some of these discussions in a knowledgeable manner. After all, if you show up to Spanish immersion school in Santiago completely aware of the modern political situation, you will be putting yourself at a major disadvantage when it comes to your cultural immersion.

In recent history, the Pinochet regime is important to understand. In 1973, the country’s economy was in dire straits and the GDP was falling quickly. Inflation rose about 800% when Senator Salvador Allende Gossens was president. Allende came to power in 1970 was a member of the country’s Socialist Party. After Allende was removed from power by a military coup, a military government took over. The Commander of the Army, Augusto Pinochet led this regime. He made himself the new head of a junta.

Immediately, after Pinochet came to power, there were human rights violations under his control. For example, the Caravan of Death killed about 70 people in 1973. Ultimately, thousands of people were killed while he was in power up until 1990. Many people also simply left the country. According to estimates, about 30,000 people decided to move elsewhere. There were also over 2000 cases of people who simply “disappeared” during this time period, and studies have shown that at least 30,000 people were tortured. To good news is that by the late 1980′s, things weren’t quite as dire, as the government began to allow freedom of speech and assembly as well as market reforms. By a 56% to 44% vote, Pinochet did not receive power again in 1988.

You will definitely notice that the climate is much calmer as you learn Spanish in Chile. Things began to shift in a more stable direction in 1989 when Chile elected a new president, namely, Patricio Aylwin who served until 1994. Another democratic leader Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle followed. Most recently, in 2006, Chile elected Michelle Bachelet from the Socialist party. This was the country’s first female president.

Today, the president of Chile is Miguel Juan Sebastian Pinera Echenique. He is a former Senate member who is also an investor and capitalists. In fact, he is one of the richest people in the whole country. Pinera’s win seems to indicate that Chileans are currently leaning towards the right. It is interesting to note that Pinera was the first leader from the right-wing party in 52 years. He is also the country’s first billionaire to be president.

As you attend Spanish immersion school in Santiago, be sure to read the newspaper and watch the news broadcasts. The media should answer many of your questions about modern history and politics. As your Spanish improves, you will be able to understand more and more of this information.

Practice Exams to Help You Pass the Pharmacy Technician Exam

Category: News — Author: Marita

Pharmacy, much like other branches of medicine, is very sensitive and thus requires its practitioners to have high degrees of competency. As such, the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board was established to ascertain that all persons involved in administering drugs are fully qualified and certified to do so. To obtain this certification and qualify for the Pharmacy Technician title you have to pass the pharmacy technician exam.

The pharmacy technician occupation is relatively lucrative and is a career many have pursued. However, this exam is not easy, it comes at a considerable cost ($129 to be more precise), and there are limited retake chances and which are also spaced out. It is thus the aim of every candidate to pass the exam at the first time of asking; candidates prepare themselves as well as they can and many complement their efforts with the help of PTCB practice exams.

Before you can even think of taking the pharmacy technician exam you need to confirm whether you qualify as a candidate as per the PTCB guidelines. These guidelines elaborate that parties wishing to take the exam should have no felony or drug related convictions, should not be on record as to having violated any State Board of Pharmacy regulation, and that you should have a high school diploma as the minimum qualification.

Back to the subject of PTCB practice exams. To be fully confident of achieving success at the first attempt of the actual exam, candidates can do well to have access to plenty of pharmacy technician exam question samples. This may call for the collection of many past exam papers, a process which can consume a lot of time and money – two very limited resources that we may not have.

The best option in this regards may be to make use of the various websites that readily offer these examinations online. Most of these websites are created by qualified pharmacy professionals who have prior knowledge of the setting of these exams and have thus formulated similar questions. The setting of the PTCB practice exams is also similar to that of the actual exam in terms of the number of questions and duration. The PTCB exams are also graded like the actual exams and you get your result immediately after you complete the paper.

These online portals have huge databases of questions and thus every time you can take a practice exam you get a unique set of questions. Similar to the actual exams, the PTCB practice exams also cover areas of maintaining medication, pharmacology, participating administration, pharmacy law, naming and calculations. With this sort of comprehensiveness candidates also get to understand aspects of the makeup and the formulation of the questions in a pharmacy technician exam. This service is available at a fraction of the cost of the actual exam and thus it makes for a wise investment that guarantees a pleasant return in the near future.

All About Education Masters Degree Programs

Category: News — Author: Marita

The economic growth of a country generally depends on the kind of students who graduate from the schools in their different areas of study. This means that the level of education of the teachers really matters. For the past years, the level of education of a teacher has highly been argued, with some believing that to be the best teacher you must acquire a masters degree in education. On the other hand, there are those who do not think that it will make much difference.

The ones who support the issue of the teachers having a masters degree believe that it helps the teachers be more specialized in their subjects. This is because the teachers and other people who undertake the masters program get much improved teaching skills and research methods. This directly affects positively the students they teach.

Shifts

Many school districts and private institutions nowadays prefer to employ teachers who are highly qualified. In fact how much a teacher gets paid and their promotions depend greatly on their education qualifications. This is making more teachers advance their qualifications by acquiring various degrees in education. But when assessing the teachers, the employers should be more careful and check the productivity and performance of the teachers.

In addition, undertaking a masters degree in education has also been influenced by the argument of whether the skills on how one teaches replaces the knowledge that the teacher has on the subject. The question should be whether we need a teacher who is highly trained or the one who has a better background in teaching. Should we have teachers who have more experience in the teaching skills or good academic qualifications?

Quality education masters program

If you get a quality degree you end up being a better teacher. How to Observe a Meteor Shower

Category: News — Author: Marita

Meteor showers are a wonderful sight, that don’t require any specific knowledge or equipment to enjoy, just an appreciation for the beauty of the night sky. Fortunately meteor showers are far more common and easy to view than most people realize.

Meteor showers are actually instances that come about in the event the Earth’s orbit is known to move through a cluster, thick in particles creating a rise in the amount of shooting stars apparent in the sky. There are several yearly meteor showers that take place all through out the year, some more striking than the others, and tend to be titled according to the Constellation from which they appear to radiate out of. Because meteor showers are the direct result of planet Earth moving down its pathway, right through an area of rock and ice, the meteors will seem to originate from a single constellation in the night sky, according to the actual direction the Earth is currently moving in, in its orbit. Think of a vehicle driving in a blizzard and the way each flake moves past the front of the vehicle when you look through the windshield. A number of the meteor showers are the result of planet earth moving into the debris that a comet leaves about on its path around the Sun.

Observing meteors along with meteor showers is best performed with your eyes alone, without using any optical device. While watching by way of a set of binoculars will probably show you a number of dimmer meteors which you wouldn’t manage to view normally, the minimized area of view in reality will result in you passing-up more sights than you would without them. Besides, the massive ones that one could view using the naked eye are the most spectacular anyhow. It is best to use your peripheral vision to view the entire sky, because the broad region where meteors are anticipated to fall can be identified but the exact place of each meteor is only up to random chance. Given that virtually no gear is needed, venturing out to observe a meteor shower can be a much more laid-back type of stargazing which amateur astronomers as well as people who possess hardly any curiosity about astronomy and the science involving meteors, past the wonderful spectacle they make, will enjoy alike.

I hope this was a useful guide to the stars and I wish you a wondrous stargazing experience!

Daniel Stewart is a Mechanical Engineer who also studied Astronomy and Astrophysics at Villanova University.

He is currently working on stargazingtonight.com, a website that aims to provide a comprehensive guide to the stars for those who are new to the world of stargazing, as well as a telescope how to buyers guide, which includes a list of all the best telescopes available today.

Students – Look for a Job Early When You Start University

Category: News — Author: Marita

In the event you fail to plan then you definitely plan to fail. This is the case with job-hunting after university. Just think of how many students will be flushing straight into the job market from May to August annually! Success always starts with failure so get out there and fail as much as you possibly can. Go and get rejected from a bunch of jobs and then find one that fits with you.

Consequently, you need to be a step above the rest (and you are a step above the rest just by reading this article). Scheduling is of the essence when looking for a job. You need to make sure your CV is tailored to the job to which you are applying

Getting a professionally written CV is going to make you much more money in the long run. You’ll have a much better CV and it will stand out to employers. You will get interviews quicker and therefore end up getting a job much quicker. Really, think about it, if you get a job just two weeks quicker then you will be making at least an extra £600 due to the extra wages you will receive.

Chances are you’ll be making so much more money than that. Once you have a decent CV then half your job is done. You just have to get it out there. Start applying to every job that looks appealing to you.

Be sure you write an enticing cover letter for each one. Many of the cover letters will be roughly the same but change it up when it’s appropriate in order to fit with the job you are applying. It’s important that you write with a persuasive tone in your cover letter and explain why you want the job and what key skills you have that fit the job. Be sure to sign off with a call to action, as in, make them call you and leave your phone number.

If you know which town or city you want to work in then go round putting your CV into agencies and tell them what kind of work you require, be it brief or something a lot more significant.

In case you have attempted some work experience at university then hopefully you have some idea what industry you want to go into and you will have some idea what office work is like (if you have had office work experience of course!)

Getting work experience has a number of advantages in this respect, you know what you would like and the employer can see you have picked up skills from the work you have done. Always remember to put work experience on your CV, even if you didn’t get paid for it. It will help you as a student and it will help you when you graduate.

Can You Really Learn Mandarin Online?

Category: News — Author: Marita

Mandarin Chinese is one of the more difficult languages to master if your first language is English. Some languages such as Spanish share some attributes with the English language, but Mandarin Chinese is not one of them. Learning this language involves learning a completely new language that doesn’t share much with your native tongue. It may seem impossible that you can learn Mandarin online, but with a program like Rocket Chinese it is entirely possible.

In fact, many people who learn Mandarin Chinese later in life do so online. They are able to study in their spare time and do not have to sign up for classes with a local community college. They can study from any location where they have access to their computer, which means they can download a program to their laptop and study from anywhere. Imagine sitting on the train after work studying Chinese, rather than reading a novel.

Many people decide to learn Mandarin online simply because they live in areas where they do not have access to Mandarin Chinese courses. They may not live near a community college and there may be no other organizations offering these lessons. They are forced to find other alternatives to learning the language and studying online is more convenient than CDs, DVDs or books.

If you need to learn Mandarin Chinese to communicate with others or just want to learn the language to enrich your own learning, learning online will be the most convenient option you find. It can also be the most affordable option, since taking courses can get quite expensive.

If you decide to learn Mandarin online, consider these tips:

1. Select your program with great care. You need an interactive program that will take you from the beginner to advanced levels without requiring you to purchase more and more programs. It is always more affordable to invest in one high quality program right from the start than to go through many lower quality programs that don’t teach you as much.

2. Look for an interactive program as they are easier to follow and you are less likely to get bored. You can’t effectively learn Mandarin Chinese simply by repeating words over and over and trying to remember them. You need a program that will teach in an interactive manner that allows you to hear how native speakers say the words and form sentences.

3. Don’t skip the grammar lessons. Very few people find grammar exciting, but if you pass those lessons in your Mandarin lessons you will have a full grasp of the Mandarin language. Until you understand at least the basic principles of grammar, you will sound like a tourist rather than a fluid speaker.

4. Set a study schedule and remain very consistent over time. When you learn Mandarin online you don’t have dedicated class times that you have to make. If you start letting yourself slack on your studies, you will hold yourself back from mastering the language. Set a schedule for your studies and stick to it. Tell your family about the schedule and ask them to help you keep it up.

The great thing about studying language online is you can spend as much time on the lessons as you want. If you catch onto something quickly, you can move ahead quickly. If you need more time on a lesson, you go over and over it all you want.

I am a proud member of the Rocket Chinese language course and there is no better way to Learn Mandarin Online. It has really helped me power through the learning curves of what used to be a difficult language to learn.
