Eagle Ranch Academy Turns Struggling Teens into Promising Young Adults

Category: News — Author: admin

The rate of recidivism among struggling teens who have already been through a series of programs designed to help them, has led many people in society to give up on them, but not us here at Eagle Ranch Academy. Even parents at their wit’s end feel that their child will never go to college, never hold a job for any length of time, and in general never become a productive member of society. Dealing with struggling teens is a complicated issue that requires caretakers and care providers to have stamina and an unfailing sense of hope. Since they often feel powerless, it is particularly devastating for a teen in distress to sense that someone is giving up on them.

Here at Eagle Ranch Academy, we won’t. We are the most comprehensive residential treatment center for troubled teens, and our staff will not give up on your child. Our purpose is not to simply “clean” your child of their addiction or problem, but to teach them how to stay on the path they want their lives to take after they graduate from the program. We accept gifted teens who are performing below their abilities because they are struggling with:

* alcohol and/or substance abuse,
* depression,
* being unable to manage their responsibilities because of a clinically diagnosis of ADHD or ADD,
* the emotional fallout of their parent’s divorce,
* avoidance issues (running away

We know that these struggling teens can become promising adults later on if they can get a sense of control and choice back. In other words, if they can get themselves back. Eagle Ranch Academy’s multi-faceted staff is full of medical professionals, therapists, and certified academic and fitness instructors, who never give up on your child. Each troubled teen’s care is approached from the standpoint of individual solutions. In addition, each teen is placed in a group / class of 12, with an instructor and an embedded therapist present 40 hours per week.

Why embed a therapist? Well troubled teens, especially those who are gifted academically, artistically, or athletically, can become very manipulative in coping with others during their experiences. Often they will present themselves and their problems in a different light if they are in an “official” therapy session. Although we provide weekly individual and group therapy sessions, and embedded therapist has the ability to interact with a teen throughout the day, to listen to them, see how they interact with others, and obtain first hand knowledge about how their particular issue id affecting them (e.g. not being able to concentrate or finish a task because of ADHD). Our embedded therapist can provide counseling at critical points during the day, and even give a teen who is acting out during an activity a 1 on 1 counseling session without them knowing it.

This knowledge is then applied not only during official therapy sessions, but throughout the course of the program, all the while encouraging the teen to become introspective about themselves so that they can get to a place where they see themselves and their lives honestly.

When this happens, it is a breakthrough for a troubled teen; it can make the difference between success and recidivism after they leave the program. The length of stay for each troubled teen at Eagle Ranch Academy is different because no two people get to this point at the same time. Once they reach this stage, we switch gears to provide them with the answers they seek, as well as the academic training and life skills they need to leave ERA feeling confident that they can deal with the challenges that lie ahead of them in adulthood.

This is why Eagle Ranch Academy has had so much success turning struggling teens into promising young adults: we give them themselves back.

Holiday Courses – Educate Your Kids during the Holidays

Category: News — Author: admin

Holiday courses are a great solution if you are unsure whether your child will benefit from having 6 – 8 weeks off study during the summer months and are concerned what they will be getting up to with their friends in the day whilst you are at work. By enrolling your children on summer courses you will not only ensure that they are supervised whilst you are at work, but that they will be benefiting from additional study and or sports and recreational activities which will keep them off the street and out of harms’ way.

Academic Holiday Courses

If your child is behind in one or more of their subjects then choosing to enrol them on an academic holiday programme is the perfect way to ensure they catch up on what they have fallen behind in during the year of school or college. Other reasons for attending summer tuition programmes is to pass one of the years examinations which may not have been passed or may not have been passed at a high enough level for your child to then go onto further education. By catching up in the summer your child has a better chance of not missing a year out by taking retakes the following year as some examination retakes can be taken in September or October in between other studies.

Sports Holiday Courses

Sports holiday courses are a great way of keeping your child busy, out of trouble and keeping fit at the same times during the summer months. Plus if your child is into sport they may well specialise in a certain sporting activity as they may have a dream of becoming a professional athlete later in life and appreciate the extra sports and expertise provided on summer sports courses.

Mixed Subject Holiday Courses

If however you would like your child to benefit from a broad range of both academic and sports lessons during holiday courses most colleges who offer summer courses will be happy to mix and match with your child’s personal choice of classes so that they get the most out of their summer. The main advantage of taking part in a mixed subject holiday programme is that you get to meet other pupils with a range of interests both in sport as well as academic studies. Plus, the majority of those students who enrol in such holiday courses are foreign students who have come to England to learn English as part of a fun programme of classes as well as recreational activities and sports.

Improving Management Skills: Management Training Courses and a Management Certificate

Category: News — Author: admin

There are a number of ways to improve your management skills. Because managers come from a variety of backgrounds they will often come into a position with many strengths in one area, but they may be lacking skills in other areas. Sometimes a manager has been promoted from within; other times managers are hired from outside the company. In either situation, managers can benefit from completing a management certificate or taking management training courses.

Management training courses should include hands-on activities and provide access to resources that will help you develop a strategy for encouraging the best performance possible from the people and teams you manage. You should be able to use the information learned from completing a management certificate to enhance your management techniques and increase productivity in the workplace (these skills usually are valuable outside of the workplace as well!).

A basic management certificate should include management training courses that cover the following topics: what workplace paradigms are (these are different for every company) and how they affect the success of a work group; what barriers managers face that can impeded successful management; how to improve your communication skills so you are more effective; how to develop listening skills; and how to use terminology that will facilitate better communication.

Management training can take different forms. Courses should include both conceptual frameworks and “big picture” structures, as well as practical, applicable advice. There should be takeaways that managers can begin implementing immediately. Exercises should be interactive so that managers taking the courses can practice the skills they are learning and discuss any issues or questions that arise.

Some takeaway skills from a management certificate include being able to: identify difficulties a supervisor will encounter in the workplace (daily or less frequently); explore the paradigms in your particular role and workplace and understand how they affect performance (for both the individual as well as the team); describe the paradigms in your job and learn to challenge them to achieve more profitability; understand paradigm paralysis and the problems associated with it; recognize change and be able to determine if it is a good change or a change that will have negative consequences; analyze the relationship between paradigms and change; and recognize assumptions that have become commonplace in your workplace. Workplace paradigms can arise in communications, brainstorming sessions, problem solving situations, and more. It is important to recognize these paradigms and understand what affect they have on a situation.

Finally, part of being a successful manager is being able to set goals – for yourself, for those you manage, and for the organization. You also have to meet the expectations of your peers and those above you. A successful manger will be able to recognize the importance and the power of getting your employees involved and excited in the work you do. Employees should understand the big picture and the overarching goals of the company and not remain focused solely on their own tasks. All of the skills outlined here can be improved and refined with management training courses via a management certificate.

Emergency Medical Technician Training Prospects

Category: News — Author: admin

Quick in-field reaction to trauma is an essential skill that professional emergency medical technicians have to obtain. Educational training opportunities start preparing students for the field by developing the competency to provide patient care in urgent situations. Vocational colleges provide students with several training prospects that develop professional skills.

EMTs are trained to respond to emergency situations where people need immediate medical attention. Professionals stabilize patients and transport them to the nearest hospital. Training is as absolute necessity when pursuing careers as technicians, as they are required to provide emergency care in a variety of situations. Three program levels are available but students have to begin with the first level and work their way up. This is due to the nature of training. Each available area prepares students to provide certain medical duties. Professionals can only provide assistance that corresponds to their level of training. Training prospects include:

*EMT – Basic

Basic training focuses on teaching students to assist people in situations that may include respiratory, heart, and trauma emergencies. Training develops the skills to properly assess the condition of a patient. Programs usually consist of 100-120 credit hours, which are broken up into both theoretical and clinical knowledge. Triage procedure and bleeding control are highly discussed throughout the coursework, as well as burn classification, shock management, cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), hemorrhage control, and joint splinting. Students that step into health care career positions will perform clinical duties under the supervision of more experienced and trained professionals.

*EMT – Intermediate

As an intermediate EMT, professionals perform more advanced assistance practices that are determined by the state they work in. Training breaks down the protocols taken to treat trauma relating to numerous areas such as breathing and burns. Life support practices are stressed, as EMTs need to follow specific transportation procedures to keep patients stable until they reach a medical facility. Some major medical course topics include disinfection, blood borne pathogen control, hazardous material identification, and gunshot wound response. Trauma training is dedicated to giving students an overview of how to treat patients that have suffered chest, spinal, lung, or trachea injuries. Students learn to provide emergency assistance to adults and children. Training typically requires a minimum of 35-55 credit hours of training.

*EMT – Paramedic

Paramedic training is the highest level available when pursuing a career as an EMT. Students learn to take the knowledge gained in the previous programs and apply it to administering medications, interpreting electrocardiograms, and providing intubations. Programs are very extensive and require students to complete at least 1,000 hours of training. This typically includes all coursework and field experience training. Cardiology, airway management, and trauma management are core subjects discussed within training.

Training is focused on providing students with the knowledge to obtain EMT certification, which is required in all 50 states. Accredited educational training is available at all levels as long as students successfully complete all program levels. Agencies like the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) can fully accredit the best training programs that provide students with a quality education. Enter the fast-paced medical industry by studying to become an EMT.
